In 1863, West Virginia seceded from the State of Virginia. Since the state penitentiary was in Virginia, the
newly formed West Virginia need to build one. In 1866, the state legislature purched a plot of land in Moundsville to use
as the site of the penitentiary.
The first part of the penitentiary was completed in 1876 for $363,061. This was over
$200,000 over budget. Because of this, the rest of the penitentiary was to be completed by the inmates. It was finally completed
in 1883.
The West Virginia State Penitentiary was known as one of America's most violent prisons. During the 119 year
history of the prison, 94 men were executed. From 1899-1949, 85 men were hung from 1951-1959, 9 men were electrocuted.
In 1982, a judge declared that the actions taken in the prison violated the Eighth Amendment, which prohibits curel and
unuaual punishment. Then in 1986, the West Virginia Supreme Court decided to close the prison in 1992. However, its doors
did not finally close unitl 1995.
Now, 6 years after its closing, it remains a major toursit attraction. Also, it is
reported to be one of the most supernaturally active buildings in the country.

1. the Infirmary- a large room used for treatment of ill prisoners. Cells were built for the mentally ill patients.
~Ryan must spend 15 minutes in the room to detect paranormal activity (completed)
2. the Alamo- names so because
it was considered their 'last stand', was a place to keep the inmates that were considered dangerous.
~Ariana must spend
15 minutes in Red Snyder's cell. Christina is her safety. (completed)
3. the Hole- a small room used for punishment.
It included only a toilet and food trough. Many went insane during their stay here.
~Derek is to find then explore the
inner punishment chamber for 15 minutes. Lauren is safety. (completed)
4. the Death Row Courtyard- where prisoners awaited
their execution. Located immediately outside is a cemetery.
~Steve is to stay in here for 15 minutes to determine any
paranormal activity.
5. the Sugar Shack- area where many were killed by their fellow inmates. It is an extremely 'negatively'
charged. room.
~Christina is to spend 15 minutes in here. (failed) Completed the next night by Ariana.
6. the Electrocution
Chamber- houses the electric chair used for executions.
~Lauren is to find and remove the tarp from the electric chair
and remain in the room for 15 minutes. She failes and the dare is comlpeted the next night by Ryan. Derek is safety.
7.
the Sugar Shack (part 2)
~Steve is to use night vision goggles to detect paranormal activity. He is to remain in there
for 10 minutes with Ryan as safety.
8. the Hole (part 2)
~Derek is to sit in the metal chair in complete darkness
and listen to the EMF equipment. The first attempt fails, but then is completed
